Quarantine West Coast Swing

Teaching on Thursday nights for Blacksburg West Coast Swing has become such a bright spot in my week. With their semester ending, so does their club meetings. However, with that space and time already carved out, I am going to continue on for…who knows how long…until we burn out (that zoom fatique is real y’all) …or it becomes safe to meet in small groups again. AND, making it even brighter Bonny Branch of Roanoke Westie’s has agreed to tag team with me! Thank you Bonny!

I am so thankful to BWCS and their willingness to keep dancing with me even with an abundance of on-line opportunies available to dancers these days. Honestly, it is daunting to offer instruction in this unprecidented time where globally known dancers are as easy to access as your little ol’ local insturctors. Early on I questioned how I could offer something that was truly needed and didn’t want to just add more of the same. However, it was pointed out to me in a meeting hosted by one of these globally known coaches, Brandi Guild, that people start to dance for a variety of reasons…health, upcoming event, meeting new people etc….but what keeps them coming back is the human connection. And isn’t that so true. I know that is what keeps me in love with partner dancing year after year. She encouraged the local instructors, as imperfect as it is to teach on-line, to keep at it and keep those local connections going. And once it is safe to come out, we will be here with bells on to teach, practice, learn, dance and connect with you.

So here is what’s happening…

We will meet on Thursday nights from 6:30-7:30 via Zoom

It will be an ALL LEVEL class and NO PARTNER NEEDED. While we may teach a pattern sometimes it will be taught from the perspective of dancing by yourself. We will also keep a lack of space in mind while teaching so you won’t need much room. We may, depending on people’s interest, teach some other styles but the plan is to focus on primarily on WCS. Bonny and I will alternate weeks (unless one of us needs to switch). If you have any request on what you would like to see, by all means, reach out!
